PDAs are hand-held still not PC, but have been used by many people for years. PDAs are best known as Pocket PC or handheld organizers. PDAs have many uses, including: mathematics, used as a timekeeper with subroutines in the calendar, navigate through cyberspace, send and receive email, video, typing and word processing, name and address book functions, decision making and preparation of spreadsheets, code reading bars, receiving broadcasts or listen to music, playing computer games, entering survey results, and GPS. Most modern PDAs have screens also Color, MP3 music and telephony capabilities, allowing them to be used as mobile phones (smartphones), web browsers and widgets portable media. Now also include several cameras that can photograph scenes which then can be uploaded to Flickr and MySpace accounts. Virtually all new PDAs can surf the Internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi, or wireless area networks almost all PDAs use touch screen leaving Smartphones were dependent menu systems attributable to their tinier screens.
PDA's Past
The term "personal data assistant "was first used on January 7, 1992 by then Apple Computer CEO John Sculley at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, in conjunction with the Newton Apple.

Not a good replacement Laptop ... However,
Perhaps to a greater degree than any other device computer, personal digital assistant lacks the raw computing power and wireless broadband capabilities of a desktop or laptop. Currently, the cost of laptops coming down. Although much larger in size, most laptops have screens of size complete and keyboards and have more computing power.
However, the OQO model 2 was carried out in recent times as a desktop PC PDA completely compatible with a USB port so that people can use their normal work and business software or play computer games compatible with operating systems such as Windows everywhere XP. You can also connect a regular PC peripherals. Costs are still a way to fall before the mass adoption takes place in the market, but OQO is the manufacturer no longer exclusive of these types of units, so costs may decline in coming years.

The strength PDA is that is easy to carry and less bulky than full-size computers.It slips easily into a shirt or pants pocket. Additional features such as cameras, global positioning system, MP3 player and phone that is flexible, unlike any other computers on the market.
Many people do not require full desktop capabilities, while on the go. To the extent that they can access their information and synchronize your data to a computer of size full when they reach their homes and offices, which is really all they need and want to do. Thus, at least in the short run, the PDA will probably remain as an assistant laptops to millions of users for the coming years.
